L’EGYPTE
The Arab Republic of Egypt - the Misr al-Arabya Gumhurya - Is located on the southern coast of the eastern Mediterranean, and is bordered by Libya to the west, the Red Sea in the east and south Sudan. Since 1982 the Sinai peninsula was returned by Israel to Egypt and made part.
It is the 3rd most populous country in Africa after Nigeria and Ethiopia but its population, over 80 000 people and still growing, has returned to 90% along the Nile, particularly the North band from Alexandria to Fayoum, including Cairo and the Delta.
Apart from this fertile strip along the river , which is the widest 24 km from the Fayoum but sometimes only tens of meters , the rest of the country is desert and it is these wonderful deserts we offer in our programs – Sinai, Libyan Desert with the White Desert, the Oasis of the New Valley etc…
Its capital is Cairo (Al Qayra) and this city over 20 million is by far the most populated city in Egypt.
The official language is Arabic with some dialects still spoken across the country (siwi, nubien etc..). Coptic (which is considered the descendant of the language spoken in Ancient Egypt) is still used as the liturgical language of the Christians of Egypt.
